Are You An Optimist?

How do you perceive life?  Do you think that your cup is half full and there is room for more, or do you complain that your cup is half empty?  Well, for the sake of your health and longevity, I hope that you are an optimist and definitely look for the bright side of everything that comes your way in life.

The following is a quote from the book, "How your Mind Can Heal your Body" by David Hamilton, Ph.D.  David states "Optimists live longer than pessimists do!  That's the conclusion of a 30 year study involving 447 people that was conducted by the scientists at the Mayo Clinic.  They found that those with a more positive outlook had around a 50 percent lower risk of early death than negative thinkers and wrote that "mind and body are linked and attitude has an impact on the final outcome, death."  This is a startling statistic!  Optimists also had fewer physical and emotional health problems;  had less pain and increased energy;  and were generally more peaceful, happy and calm than pessimists."

From a "Biology" perspective, this can be explained in scientific terms.  Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D. explained why our health is determined by our beliefs in his book called "The Biology of Belief".  Bruce shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology;  but instead, DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts. Our perceptions about life - our beliefs - are therefore vitally important.  It really doesn't matter whether our thoughts are right or wrong.  If we believe them, then to us they are true and that is all that matters.  Our perceptions cause an emotional response and chemicals are released that affect the environment of your cells in a positive or negative way.

Just imagine what you are doing to your body if you are constantly thinking that you will never be the perfect weight or will never be fit and healthy.  You are what you think and if you are thinking negatively about yourself then you are poisoning yourself with these nasty thoughts.  Be a detective for a week.  Catch yourself out.  In those quiet moments when your mind is on auto-pilot, check if your thoughts are positive or not.  Let your emotions be your guide.  If you feel good, you will be thinking good stuff.  If you feel depressed, you will be thinking negative thoughts.  Become aware, then change those negative thoughts to positive ones.  It takes perseverence and determination but you can do it.  It's truly worth it.  Your health and your future circumstances depend upon it!
