Exercise your power to choose!

The power to choose is one of our greatest gifts.  We make daily choices about how we care for our bodies and the food we put into our mouths. As a new year begins it is really important to remember that with choice comes responsibility.  If we believe that we have the power to choose then we must also accept that we are not merely leaves blown about by the wind of life.  We must accept responsibility for "where we are at" right here and right now because our choices along the way have helped create our own present reality.  I know that this has all been said before but I want to repeat it now because it is so incredibly important.  Most of us are living our life on auto-pilot.  The majority of decisions we make on a daily basis are made by our sub-conscious and our sub-conscious makes decisions based on our beliefs about ourselves and life.  Beliefs are ideas and thoughts that we accept as truth. What we think about ourselves and the world becomes true for us.  It doesn't mean that it really is true ....but for us it is!

How do we know whether our belief system is beneficial or not?  Well, our results speak for themselves.  Are you happy with your present reality?  Are you healthy, happy and well balanced?  Are the relationships in your life harmonious and all they could be?  Is there one area of your life that seems out of balance?  It could be financial problems, it could be health and weight issues, it could be relationship or family problems and it could be a combination of several, if not all, of those things.


Just as physical exercise is so important in a practical sense if we want to maintain good health, so exercising your right to choose is critically important as the first step in making changes in your current reality.  If you don't like something .... your current weight, your current health status, your current bank balance, the constant fights and struggles in your relationship, your emotional instability and unhappiness .... then CHANGE IT!   You can get off auto-pilot and do some soul searching to identify what those negative beliefs may be that are located deep in your sub-conscious and are causing you to make choices that back up those beliefs. There must be negative beliefs in there somewhere because if what we were thinking about ourselves and the world was all good then our results in all areas of our lives would mirror this.  If you have problems then look for the real reason!  Don't just blame outside circumstances for where you are at.

Life is actually really very simple.  What we give out, we get back.  It's a universal law and extremely important to remember. Each one of us creates our experiences by the thoughts we think and the words we speak and then the actions we take.  Remember, thoughts come first.  Each day can be a joyous adventure or a sad, limiting experience.  We have that choice.  Two people can live in the same world with the same circumstances and yet experience life so differently.  What is different is their reaction to their circumstances and in particular the thoughts they choose to think.

Most of our thoughts are automatic.  They are actually called "automatic thoughts" and we have thousands of these every day. They are made by our sub-conscious and are usually the same thoughts that we had yesterday, and the day before and the day before that.  Our thoughts become a habit in the same way that we form other habits.  So if we are in the habit of putting ourself down because we have the core belief that we are not good enough, then we are in effect in an abusive relationship with ourselves.  We are constantly lowering our own self esteem which then results in us behaving in ways that confirm this negative belief about ourselves.  What is the end result .... why, our current reality of course and all it's present problems.

The good news is that these automatic thoughts can be changed.  First we need to examine what belief/s it is that is powering these thoughts.  What do you really feel about yourself and about life? Has a bad experience from childhood or your teenage years resulted in you forming a belief about yourself that is very negative? This is the most important part of the whole proceedings and is perhaps the part that you need the most help with.  Perhaps you need to talk to a counsellor or undertake some online self-discovery sessions to help you arrive at a state of AWARENESS.  Once you are aware of the problem, you can fix it. You can understand why you have been thinking the way you do and actually choose not to accept your limiting belief.  It is only your acceptance of it that makes it true for you.  You can choose to believe that you are not smart enough, not good enough, too fat, too thin, too short, too tall, not capable of sustaining relationships, not good with money etc. etc. or choose NOT to accept these beliefs any more.  Remember, as I just said, it is only your acceptance of it that makes it true for you!! 

So it's a new year.  2011.  This is your year.  Come on, claim it as a good one!  Remember, it's your choice.  You need to start today, in fact this very minute.  What do you want your experience of 2011 to be?  Joyous, happy, full of fun and excitement?  Do you want to be healthy and fit?  Do you want your finances to be organised and prosperous?  Do you want all of this and more?  I do!  If you do too, and your current reality doesn't reflect these things, then you have a choice to make right now.  DECIDE TO CHANGE AND EXCERCISE YOUR POWER TO CHOOSE.

Once you have become aware of your core beliefs we can take steps to re-wire your sub-conscious and change your negative cognitions (thought patterns) to positive ones.  Consistant positive thoughts will lift your vibration and your emotions and then affect your actions.  Positive actions will lead to a positive result....the results you want in 2011.  The life and the reality you have chosen!
